Footsteps in Asia is a fully licensed, independently owned, South East Asia inbound tour operator. We have been organising small and large group series and tailor made tours since 1994 – during which time more than 250,000 passengers have travelled with us and enjoyed the ‘Footsteps in Asia’ experience.

With a head office in Bangkok (Thailand) and regional offices in Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Siem Reap (Cambodia) and Vientiane (Laos) we have South East Asia covered.

OUR EXPERIENCE

Our tours are designed and administered by an experienced, well travelled, local and western management team – all of whom call South East Asia home. 

In addition to operating our own Footsteps in Asia branded small group journeys and independent tours, our team is very proud of our successful and long standing relationships with several leading travel companies – including Peregrine and Gecko’s Adventures, Exodus Travel, The Imaginative Traveller, Sawadee Reisen and The Adventure Company.

OUR LOCAL LEADERS

Time and time again, our clients tell us it is our tour leaders that make their holiday so special. In the mid-1990’s, when most South East Asia adventure tour companies were operating with western tour leaders, we were pioneers by replacing all western leaders with local tour leaders.

By working with a team of local leaders, we can help you get inside a destination. These leaders speak the language, can read the menus, understand the day to day world around them, offer insights into the history and culture, and are passionate about their homeland. They ensure we celebrate our differences with respect, understanding and mutual benefits. Providing possibilities for you to enjoy special moments is their secret.

Footsteps in Asia practice a code of responsible tourism that goes beyond trendy marketing. By basing ourselves in Asia and employing local tour leaders, we believe we have a more intimate understanding of cultural do’s and don’ts than many of our competitors, and regard it of paramount importance that our tours are run in accordance with these cultural sensitivities.

VALUE FOR MONEY

Many people ask us how we can operate our tours at significantly lower prices than our competition. Good question, with a number of answers:

- All of our offices are based in South East Asia and staffed mostly with local, professional, highly trained personnel. We have no ‘high street’ worldwide shops or offices with large teams of administrative, marketing and advertising staff. By remaining small and local we keep our overheads to a minimum.

- We do not print bulky brochures with a limited annual shelf life. All our bookings and enquiries are administered online through our website or handled directly through one of our local offices.

- Because we are based in South East Asia we have long standing relationships with hotels, guest houses and transport providers whom we book with directly at local prices.

All of these factors allow us to concentrate our financial resources where we believe it matters most - ie: providing you with excellent value for money trips without compromising on quality.

HOW TO TRAVEL WITH FOOTSTEPS IN ASIA

There are basically 3 ways you can choose to travel with Footsteps in Asia:

1) Small Group Tours:

Our website has a selection of over 50 small group tours with set departure dates where you can join in and share your journey in a fun and safe way with like minded travellers. Our maximum group size is 16 persons which is small enough to avoid making a negative impact on the places you go and the people you meet, but large enough to have a great time with other travellers from around the globe.
 
Each small group tour is fully escorted by one of our highly trained and friendly local tour leaders who will uncover for you experiences you may never find on your own. If you are travelling alone we will match you to share a twin room with someone of the same gender so you do not have to pay a single room supplement. However, if you’d prefer to have your own room there is an option to pay for this. On our small group tours we offer 3 grades of travel:

Budget – Accommodation is more 2-3 star hotel or guest house and transport is often more ‘local’ in nature. Travel is mostly overland or by overnight rail but we do fly certain sections where we feel overland travel is wasting valuable holiday time - or just not enjoyable.

Comfort – Accommodation is generally 3 star hotel with A/C and private facilities and the occasional 2 star hotel in less developed areas. Transport used is private bus or minivan and we often fly certain sectors to maximise time spent in each destination.

Premium (coming soon) – Accommodation is 4-5 star hotel with character and atmosphere befitting its location and history. French colonial hotels, boutique hill tribe lodges and luxury tented camping are just some of the experiences you will enjoy. Most travel between destinations is by airplane.

2) Private Group Tours:

A very flexible way of travelling – just pick a tour and any date that suits you. For 2 people you can book directly on our website. Larger groups will need to contact us for a quotation. As an added incentive to organise your own group, for every 8 people who book 1 person will travel for free!

3) Tailor Made Tours:

If one of our existing tours don’t quite fit what you are looking for, or you have a special interest group (eg: sporting, social, business) we can tailor an itinerary to suit your needs. OUR PROMISE

At the end of each trip we ask all our passengers to complete a tour appraisal form, which is then passed on to our office for evaluation. From this client feedback we determine certain trends in people’s likes and dislikes and make the appropriate improvements where necessary.  

Developing new tours or improving existing ones is an ongoing process. Naturally, our more important decisions are based on what we believe you want most from your South East Asian holiday and we generally regard our client’s ‘post-tour appraisals’ to be the best method of direction in assessing this.
